Community activist Claire Aitken has been chosen as Falkirk Labour’s candidate for the forthcoming Falkirk South by-election on October 17.

As well as being part of the team involved in the asset transfer and takeover of the Ettrick Dochart Community Hall by local people, Claire is well known for a string of other efforts including organising litter picks and helping set up the Hallglen Pantry foodbank. She is currently organising a community book club.

The by-election has been called following the election of former Falkirk South Labour councillor Euan Stainbank as the new Falkirk MP.

After her selection, Claire, a local factory worker, said: “It is an honour to be selected as the Falkirk Labour candidate for Falkirk South. I'm excited to begin my campaign and look forward to speaking to residents across Falkirk South. I have been a dedicated member of my community, helping those that live in it, and I hope I can continue to do so across the ward if elected on October 17.

Euan said: “Claire is undoubtedly one of the most dedicated community activists I've worked beside. The range of activities she is involved in show her to be a servant of her community and exactly the type of person we need in local government. I'm looking forward to campaigning to make her Falkirk South's next councillor.”
