SNP and Tories combined to close Bo’ness Recreation Centre.

At Falkirk Council’s meeting on Wednesday (January 31st) their councillors supported the recommendation to close the facility.

Falkirk Labour’s councillors as well as Independents wanted to keep the facility open, saying the buildings problems could be overcome through a three-year phased refit of the centre.

However, when it came to the vote the SNP and Tories joined forces to close it.

This was a building the vast majority of Bo’ness and Blackness residents wanted to keep open, saying it had a vital role to play in helping people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

Sadly, the SNP and Tories didn't agree, showing how little they value local community assets.

David Aitchison, Labour Councillor for Bo’ness is extremely disappointed at the decision.

He said: “This will have a huge impact on residents’ wellbeing and will cause a rise in health issues which the underfunded NHS will have to deal with in the future.”
